1. 您为什么选择从事相关的领域研究?

My interest in wireless communication began during my undergraduate studies when I became fascinated by how electromagnetic signals enable global information exchange. This curiosity led me to specialize in antenna design and radio frequency systems. Over time, I saw the potential of antenna engineering in shaping future technologies such as 5G and 6G. What continues to motivate me is the challenge of designing high-performance, compact, and efficient antennas, especially dielectric resonator antennas, to support the growing need for faster and more reliable wireless connectivity.

 

2. 您目前从事的研究工作有哪些?

At present, I am involved in several research areas related to wireless systems. My focus includes the development of high-gain dielectric resonator antennas, millimeter-wave reflectarray antennas, and MIMO configurations for advanced communication systems. I am also exploring beam steering technologies with the integration of artificial intelligence to enable adaptive control. In addition, I am investigating the use of graphene and other novel materials for creating reconfigurable and compact antennas. These projects are supported by national research grants and international collaborations.

 

3. 您认为五年后该领域的研究重点将会是什么?

In the coming five years, I believe the field will move toward technologies that support sixth-generation wireless networks. Research will likely emphasize terahertz communication, intelligent reflecting surfaces, ultra-massive MIMO systems, and AI-based adaptive beamforming. There will also be a strong push toward energy-efficient and miniaturized antennas for use in wearable devices, autonomous vehicles, and healthcare technologies. The integration of advanced materials and fabrication methods such as additive manufacturing will also play a key role.

I was honored to join the editorial board of Engineering Research Express because of its dedication to publishing scientifically sound research across all areas of engineering. The journal’s focus on high-quality peer review and rapid dissemination makes it an excellent platform for both established and emerging technologies. Its openness to interdisciplinary work is especially valuable for researchers like me working in wireless communication, antenna design, and signal processing. ERX offers a space where innovative research can have real impact and reach a broad international audience.

 

5. 您认为像Engineering Research Express这样的期刊对领域的发展有什么重要影响?

Journals like ERX play a vital role in advancing scientific knowledge by providing a trusted platform for researchers to share new findings. By emphasizing methodological rigor and scientific validity, ERX ensures that valuable research reaches the community efficiently. This is particularly important for fields such as antenna engineering and wireless systems, where rapid innovation is crucial. The journal also encourages collaboration across disciplines, which is essential for solving complex engineering problems and driving future breakthroughs.

Mohd Haizal bin Jamaluddin  副教授

马来西亚理工大学

  • Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Haizal bin Jamaluddin is a senior academic at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), affiliated with the Wireless Communication Centre (WCC). He specializes in wireless communication, antenna engineering, dielectric resonator antennas (DRA), and next-generation wireless technologies including 4G and 5G. He earned his PhD in Signal Processing and Telecommunications from Université de Rennes 1, France in 2010, and holds both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in electrical-telecommunication engineering from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. Dr. Haizal has published extensively with over 200 papers including indexed journals and conference publications and maintains a Scopus h-index of 28. He has secured numerous research grants, including from MOHE, MOSTI, and international collaborations. His research contributions have resulted in several patents and awards, notably in the development of advanced dielectric resonator, MIMO antennas and reflectarray antennas.
