王元君  教授

扬州大学

  • Yen Chin Ong (王元君) is a professor and a vice director of the Center for the Cross-disciplinary Research of Space Science and Quantumtechnologies (CROSS-Q), College of Physics at Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, China. He obtained the prestigious Excellent Young Scholars Fund from National Science Foundation of China in 2019. In the same year he was awarded the Jiangsu Specially Appointed Professorship. He is also affiliated with the Center for Gravitation and Cosmology at Yangzhou University.Professor Ong is a Malaysian, graduated from the Department of Mathematics, National University of Singapore, with B.Sc. (Hons) and M.Sc. degrees. When in Singapore, he taught at various levels, including as a mathematics teacher at Nanyang Girls’ High School, a lecturer at Nanyang Polytechnic, and a tutor at National Institute of Education in Nanyang Technological University. Subsequently, on the support of Taiwan scholarship, he obtained a PhD in Astrophysics from National Taiwan University, where he was a member of the Leung Center for Cosmology and Particle Astrophysics (LeCosPA). During that time he was awarded the university Philosophy Laurel Prize (2nd place for the natural sciences category). In 2014 he won the Dean’s Award for Excellent PhD Thesis, which was subsequently published by the Springer Theses Award series, entitled “Evolution of Black Holes in Anti-de Sitter Spacetime and the Firewall Controversy”. In the same year he was awarded the Excellent Teaching Assistant award. After graduation, he joined the Nordic Institute for Theoretical Physics (Nordita) in Stockholm, Sweden, as a Nordita fellow. He was also a visiting Riemann Fellow at the Riemann Center for Geometry and Physics, Leibniz Universität Hannover, Germany. Professor Ong has broad research interests in general relativity and gravitation, especially in black hole physics (classical solutions and thermodynamics, spacetime singularities, as well as quantum properties like Hawking radiation, and aspects of gauge/gravity duality). He is interested in the interplay between gravity and thermodynamics, such as the notion of gravitational entropy, and how modifications of entropy affect theory of gravity and cosmic evolution. His wide ranging yet thought-provoking research has furthered our understanding of the deep connections between black hole thermodynamics, cosmic censorship conjecture, and quantum gravity phenomenology such as generalized uncertainty principle, with astrophysical and cosmological implications. Occasionally he also works on modified gravity theories and quantum information. Professor Ong enjoys drinking coffee, reading, tending to his plants, cooking, and contemplating the meaning of life, art, and philosophy in general. His personal website is oyc.space and he can be reached at ongyenchin@nuaa.edu.cn.

Understanding the Universe
