“I am thrilled and deeply honoured to receive the JMM Emerging Leaders Award. This recognition validates our dedication to advancing MEMS technology. Our paper represents a significant part of our journey in exploring the intricate dynamics of nonlinear MEMS resonators. Our work aims to broaden the understanding of frequency stabilization mechanisms, with a focus on enhancing the design and functionality of MEMS devices. This award reaffirms the importance and potential impact of our findings. I am grateful for the board’s acknowledgment and excited about the potential impacts of our work in the field. Thank you for this prestigious honour.”

Hanna Cho

  • Dr Hanna Cho is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the Ohio State University. Dr Cho earned her BS and MS degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Yonsei University, South Korea in 2002 and 2004, and a PhD at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) in 2012. Dr Cho’s Micro/Nano Multiphysical Dynamics Lab explores nonlinear dynamics in micro/nanomechanical systems for MEMS, with applications in sensing, imaging, and energy harvesting. The lab also delves into the exploration of multi-physical dynamics that emerge in atomic force microscopy (AFM), with the aim of pushing the boundaries of AFM technology. Furthermore, her research extends to the application of microsystems and AFM in various material research areas, particularly in the fields of bio (bone mechanics) and energy (Li-ion batteries). She has received the Young Faculty Award and Director’s Fellowship from the Defense Advanced Research Project Agency (DARPA), along with the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) C.D. Mote Jr. Early Career Award and the OSU COE Lumley Research Award. In 2023, Hanna Cho was elected as a fellow of the ASME. Currently, she serves as an associate editor for the ASME Journal of Computational and Nonlinear Dynamics and as a subject editor for Nonlinear Dynamics.

Qiongfeng Shi

  • Qiongfeng Shi is a professor in the School of Electronic Science and Engineering, Southeast University. He received his B.Eng degree from University of Science and Technology of China in 2012, and PhD degree from National University of Singapore in 2018. He worked as a Research Fellow in National University of Singapore from 2018 to 2022. He has published more than 80 international journal papers and 30 conference papers/abstracts, which have received more than 7000 citations with an H-index of 48. His research interests include energy harvesting, self-powered sensing, flexible/wearable electronics, MEMS, human-machine interfaces, and intelligent systems.

Bhaskar Mitra

  • Bhaskar Mitra received his Bachelors and Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering from IIT Bombay (2002) and PhD from University of Michigan in 2008. After the PhD he was a part of an industry-academia consortium at the Center for Innovative Ventures in Emerging Technology at Rutgers University. Since 2014 he has been a faculty member at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi where he is engaged in research on a variety of MEMS devices including vibration energy harvesters, 3D printed mass spectrometers, piezoelectric microfluidic valves, chalcogenide ISFETS, nanofluidics for water treatment applications, thin film packaging and applications of microplasmas. His research is driven by inquiring into interesting physical phenomena at micro and nano scales for useful applications of miniaturization through microfabrication.

Parikshit Sahatiya

  • Dr Parikshit Sahatiya received his PhD degree from IIT Hyderabad, India. Currently, he is an Assistant Professor at BITS Pilani Hyderabad Campus. Dr Sahatiya’s research is very interdisciplinary which include 2D materials based nanoelectronic devices and sensors including photodetectors, flexible and wearable sensors, memristors and VOC sensors. Dr Sahatiya has published more than 100 Journal articles and 5 patents. Dr Sahatiya serves as an Associate Editor for Nature Scientific Reports, Microelectronic Engineering Journal, Chip, Materials Today: Electronics and Springer Nature Graphene and 2D Materials. Dr. Sahatiya has served as a Visiting Assistant Professor at Purdue University and Tufts University, USA.

Andrea Vergara

  • Andrea Vergara is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Robotics, Graduate School of Engineering of Tohoku University, Japan. She received BSc and Mechanical Engineering degrees from the University of Chile in 2015, and a PhD (Engineering) degree from Tohoku University in 2021. She was an exchange graduate student in the Power Mechanical Engineering Department of National Tsing Hua University, Taiwan in 2019. Andrea is a member of the IEEE, the JSME and the IEEJ. She received the best oral presentation award in IEEE MEMS 2022 Conference in Tokyo. Her research topics include piezoelectric actuators, pMUTs and microfabrication processes.

Jia Zhang

  • After obtaining his PhD from Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) in 2014, Jia Zhang worked as a full faculty member in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at HIT and became a full professor in 2019. His current research interests cover micro/nano fabrication, flexible electronics, intelligent perception for robots, and smart medical microsystems. He has published more than 70 SCI-index peer-reviewed papers in Nature Electronics, Nature Communications, Advanced Materials, etc, as well 15 patents. He has won the first prize of Science and Technology Award (Natural category) in Heilongjiang Province on two separate occasions.

Ankur Gupta

  • Ankur Gupta is an associate professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jodhpur, India. He received his PhD degree from IIT Kanpur, India, and served as faculty at IIT Bhubaneswar before joining IIT Jodhpur in 2019. He recently received the Institute of Smart Structures and Systems (ISSS) Young Scientist Award 2022 and Indian National Young Academy of Sciences (INYAS) membership 2023. He is also a recipient of the ISEES Young Scientist Award (2017), IEI Young Engineer Award (2019), and the SERB International Research Experience Fellowship Award (2022), serving as a visiting scientist at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Germany. He was selected as a BRICS Young Scientist by the Department of Science and Technology, India, to participate in the 2nd BRICS Young Scientist Conclave (2017) held at Zhejiang University, China, in 2017. His research interest is to explore microsystem design and fabrication approaches for a wide range of applications.
