This is a memorial issue aimed to celebrate the remarkable achievements of Rodney Baxter who passed away on July 20, 2025.
Rodney Baxter’s pioneering discoveries and contributions to the study of exactly solved models in statistical mechanics, including the concepts of commuting transfer matrices, functional relations and corner transfer matrices, have long inspired fundamental developments in key areas of mathematics and physics. The notion of Yang-Baxter integrability originating from lattice models has led to profound advances in quantum and conformal field theory, in knot theory and in the development of quantum groups and the Quantum Inverse Scattering Method. Yang-Baxter integrable models have played a central role in the connection between Gauge/String theory and 2D integrable systems, and are also being realised in experiments in low-dimensional physics.

Rodney Baxter’s work continues to inspire related developments by researchers around the world across several generations. This focus collection aims to attract articles which report on the latest developments in these and related areas.
