1. 您为什么选择从事相关的领域研究?

I was drawn to energy materials because they sit at the intersection of fundamental science and real-world impact. My research field offers immense opportunities to address global challenges like sustainable energy, clean storage, and renewable integration. It allows me to combine physics, materials science, and engineering in ways that can directly improve lives and shape the future of technology.

 

2. 您目前从事的研究工作有哪些?

My research group is actively working on wide range of energy harvesting and storage materials, covering both the fundamental understanding of materials properties, governing physics and the development of efficient energy devices based on such materials, this includes conventional metal-ion batteries, photo-rechargeable batteries, and hybrid metal halide perovskite optoelectronic systems. We are exploring how light can be harnessed not only for harvesting energy but also for direct storage, creating devices that merge solar cells and battery functionality into one. Additionally, we are investigating nanostructured semiconductor electrodes for solar-assisted water splitting to produce clean hydrogen fuel.

3. 您认为五年后该领域的研究重点将会是什么?

In the next five years, I expect the focus to shift toward scalable, multifunctional energy devices. This includes:
  • Integrated solar-storage systems that can directly convert and store energy.
  • Solid-state batteries for safer, high-density energy storage.
  • Next-generation Si-perovskite tandem solar cells with improved stability and efficiency.
  • Green hydrogen technologies that can complement battery systems. The emphasis will be on sustainability, scalability, and real-world deployment.
  • Fabrication technologies are going to play a big role in development of such devices for instance flexible or micro-batteries.

The journal provides a platform for rapid dissemination of high-quality research in materials science. Joining the board allows me to contribute to shaping the direction of the field, encouraging interdisciplinary work, and supporting young researchers in publishing impactful studies. It’s an opportunity to stay at the forefront of innovation while fostering a global community of scientists. I am sincerely grateful to my research team and collaborators across the globe, and I look forward to advancing this work.

 

5. 您认为像Materials Research Express这样的期刊对领域的发展有什么重要影响?

Journals like Materials Research Express provide rapid publication of the results which accelerate the transfer of knowledge by quickly sharing recent breakthroughs and providing vital visibility to emerging research ideas, which play a critical role in providing visibility to emerging novel materials and devices.

Shahab Ahmad  副教授

印度理工大学焦特布尔校区

  • Dr. Shahab Ahmad is an Associate Professor at the Department of Physics, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jodhpur. Dr. Ahmad has received Ph.D. in Physics from IIT-Delhi, India in 2014 and worked as visiting researcher at the Cavendish Lab, University of Cambridge, UK during Ph.D. Subsequently he has worked as a post-doctoral research fellow at the Department of Engineering, University of Cambridge, UK from 2014-2017. So far Dr. Ahmad has authored more than 65 research articles in international reputed journals including Nature, Advanced Materials, Advanced Energy Materials, Advanced Functional Materials, Nano Letters, ACS Nano, JACS, Small, Advanced Optical Materials etc. Dr. Ahmad is recipient of several national and international awards and fellowships and known in the scientific community for the demonstration of the first single active material based two-electrode photo-batteries. At IIT Jodhpur, Dr. Ahmad is leading the ‘Advanced Energy Materials Lab’ and his research interests include Optoelectronic studies of Metal Halide Perovskites, Photo-Rechargeable Energy Storage Devices, Metal-ion Batteries, Perovskite assisted Solar Water Splitting for H2 production.
