主题范围

Blue foods – which have long been cornerstones of economies, livelihoods, and cultural practices worldwide – encompass a wide diversity of species that are captured or cultured across a range of methods and scales in freshwater, brackish, and marine environments. Their important contributions to societies are increasingly being recognized and valued, alongside their emerging potential within sustainable diets. At the same time, blue food systems are not always meeting societal needs equitably and face a range of social, economic, environmental and management challenges.
This special issue will focus on food system studies that detail blue food challenges and/or solutions, including, but not limited to:
- The role of blue foods in sustainable diets and nutrition security
- The role of blue foods in climate-resilient food systems
- The distribution of benefits and harms along value chains or across trade networks
- Identifying and characterising equity and justice issues
- Threats and opportunities to blue food systems in the context of the broader blue economy
- Indigenous and traditional food system perspectives on blue food uses and practices
- Governance and policies that support sustainable and equitable use/benefits
For the purposes of this focus issue, food system studies include those that situate production in the context of socio-economic drivers, markets, diets, nutrition and health, and social development outcomes. Studies falling outside the scope of this special issue include e.g., those focused solely on production technologies, specific management interventions, or nutrient content/analysis without a clear link to the broader blue food system. Finally, we welcome work at all scales – from small-scale to industrial – and particularly encourage work situated in local or regional contexts that can speak and add nuance to global patterns.
