Textbooks focus on perfectly ordered crystals, but many of the most interesting problems in condensed matter physics concern disordered or partially ordered states. This focus collection will consider recent experimental, computational, and theoretical advances in understanding the structural disorder found in a wide range of matter, including fluids; glasses; materials amorphised by radiation, pressure or extreme changes in temperature; flexible network crystals; fast-ion conductors; orientationally disordered crystals; and materials that undergo structural phase transitions.

We welcome contributions reporting scientific developments in the study of structural condensed matter, including fundamental constraints on physical properties; discussing applications of structurally disordered matter; and reporting the technological developments that enable these scientific developments and applications.

The topic of structural disorder reflects the scientific interests of our dear friend and colleague Professor Kostya Trachenko, to whose memory this focus collection is dedicated.
