特刊摘要
Two decades ago, the terahertz (THz) spectral regime (0.1-10 THz) was called “THz gap”, due to the lack of efficient electronic and photonic devices operating in this frequency range. Nowadays, the performance of THz devices has been significantly improved, which supports various applications extending from astronomical observations to communication and imaging in our daily life. It is a fast-developing field that an update is necessary.
This Special Issue aims to provide an overview of the latest advances in THz devices and applications, with the scope spanning from scientific explorations to technological breakthroughs, and highlights on key findings in materials, physics, design, modelling, and characterization of devices, real-world applications, and perspectives on advancing the state-of-the-arts.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- THz sources: frequency multipliers, resonant tunnelling diodes (RTDs), unitraveling-carrier photodiode (UTC-PDs), quantum cascade laser (QCLs), photoconductive antennas, spintronic THz emitters, etc.
- THz detectors: square-law detectors, THz mixers, plasmonic photomixers, superconductor devices, THz thermal detectors, etc.
- THz modulators: metasurfaces, on-chip meta-devices, spatial THz modulators, phased array antennas, etc.
- Emerging materials: topological materials, 2D materials, antiferromagnetic materials, absorbing materials, etc.
- THz applications: communication, imaging, radar, astronomy, spectroscopy, bio-sensing, etc.
