ERH特刊征稿|Focus on Environmental Health and Disasters

Extreme weather events, such as floods, droughts, wildfires, hurricanes, landslides and others, regularly affect communities around the world and are becoming more frequent and severe under global climate change. These extremes, combined with pre-existing structural and non-structural inequities, become “disasters” when their occurrence surpasses the capacity of local communities to cope, resulting in significant societal, economic, and environmental impacts. There is an urgent need for focused multidisciplinary research that addresses the impact of these disasters on the health of affected communities, including direct impacts on physical and mental health as well as indirect consequences via disruptions to healthcare systems, access to essential services, social structures, health stigma, and population displacement.

In this Focus Collection, we will bring together research articles, reviews, and perspectives that evaluate the direct and indirect impacts of environmental disasters on human health from a wide range of disciplinary perspectives, including epidemiology, public health, sociology, economics, environmental engineering, psychology, environmental hazards and disaster research, and other relevant fields. We welcome both qualitative and quantitative articles. The aim is to foster a comprehensive understanding of the health implications of environmental disasters, especially in the context of climate change, and to inform strategies for mitigating and adapting to their effects. We particularly encourage submissions that apply environmental justice framings, explore health inequities, or assess health risks in high-risk or understudied subgroups or geographical contexts.
